The 15 runs were the most for the Huskers in a Big Ten opener this season, as every Husker starter had at least one hit on the night. NU strung together a conference-high 20 hits off four Michigan pitchers, including a career-high four hits Rich Sanguinetti, who also tied a career high with four RBI’s. Four Huskers roped doubles on the night, while Kale Kiser stroked his first triple of the season.
On the mound, lefty Kyle Kubat continued to set the pace for the Huskers, as the freshman picked up his third straight win in conference play. Now 5-0 on the season, Kubat went 6.0 innings and gave up just two runs on six hits and one walk, while punching out six. Kubat has gone six innings or more in all three of his Big Ten starts this and has allowed no more than two earned runs, while striking out 16.
Junior Ryan Hander will try to win the series for the Huskers today when he takes the mound for his second career conference start at 5:05 p.m. (CT) against senior right-hander Brandon Sinnery. The game will be broadcast on AM 1340 KHUB with the Husker Sports Network.

Senior right-hander Ashley Hagemann was Nebraska’s lone all-region selection as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday. Hagemann earned second-team All-Midwest region honors for the second consecutive season.
Hagemann was a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2012 after posting a 23-17 record with a 2.62 ERA. Hagemann was a workhorse for the Huskers in her final season, appearing in 47 of Nebraska’s 55 games, including 38 starts. She threw nearly 75 percent of NU’s total innings while continuing to be one of the nation’s top strikeout pitchers. Hagemann struck out 320 batters in 2012, a total that currently ranks sixth nationally. She was the only pitcher in the Big Ten Conference to strike out 300 batters this season, and she joined Ashley DeBuhr as the only Huskers to post back-to-back 300-strikeout seasons. Her 320 strikeouts this season gave her 988 career strikeouts, as she ended her career as Nebraska’s all-time strikeout leader.
Hagemann’s senior season also helped her rank highly among several Nebraska career charts. In addition to finishing as Nebraska’s all-time strikeout leader, Hagemann ranks third in Husker history in innings pitched (821.0) and complete games (87), fourth in wins (75), sixth in saves (8), eighth in shutouts (20) and ninth in no-hitters (1).

The Creighton baseball team erupted offensively in the bottom of the eighth inning, pushing across four runs on five hits to claim game one of the three-game series, 7-3. Bluejay starting pitcher Ty Blach surrendered a pair of two-out singles in the top of the first inning, before inducing a ground ball to shortstop to close the top half of the inning. From that point on, the southpaw allowed just one hit in the next six complete innings, not allowing a single Shocker past second base.
Creighton and Wichita State play the second game of the three-game series this evening with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 pm from TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
